ABOUT ME
Why I Started Cycling Again
I started this website & blog when I started to train to complete a century ride in 2013. By the end of October, 2013, I had completed three century bike rides; the Tour de Corn, Clarksville Sunrise Century and Bluff City Blues 100.
The Reason Why?
Back home in Scotland, prior to moving to the United States in 2001, I had a road bike, but I would say I was a more casual rider, but not able to get much riding in between driving buses on tours all over Europe. The most I would do was about 20 miles.
In April, 2012, I realized how out of shape I was and decided to do something about it. I took up cycling again. It could be argued the medications are cheaper than biking! Great, you may say, but what on earth made you want to do a century? I set a personal goal last year of being able to bike 40 miles. I actually managed to do several rides of at least 62 miles, including the metric century of the Bluff City Blues and a 62 mile ride round Reelfoot Lake. I guess you could say that doing the century on the bike is equivalent to a runner completing a marathon ~ it is something that you want to complete at least once.
These days, I mainly just ride casually for coffee, and my rides are from coffee shop to coffee shop.
